UMAW JOINS REP. RASHIDA TLAIB IN WASHINGTON D.C.

TO CELEBRATE THE REINTRODUCTION OF THE LWMA

On Monday, September 29, Rep. Rashida Tlaib reintroduced the Living Wage for Musicians Act(LWMA) — the bill to finally regulate streaming services like Spotify and ensure fair streaming payouts to artists. This legislation would create a new streaming royalty paid directly to artists, ensuring that musicians can build sustainable careers in the digital age. The new royalty would be an additional revenue stream on top of artists’ existing royalties.

To celebrate the bill, dozens of UMAW members joined Rep. Tlaib for a press conference on September 29th outside the Capitol in Washington DC. Earlier that day, UMAW members also visited their respective representatives to share their experiences as working musicians and to discuss how the bill would impact them.
