SoundCloud, Getting Worse?
SoundCloud used to be an unusual DSP, providing social features that weren’t replicated by other services. But lately enshittification has been taking place. Their TOS changed to be more in line with bigger platforms, even though they’re based in Germany where user protections are more robust than in the US.
Some of the negatives I see may be related to the fact that until recently, I had an Artist’s Plus account, which included some fairly shitty user stats. Now that I don’t pay $17 a month for some shitty stats and unlimited uploads, the stats are even worse. Not that I care much, because, like Shittify, I no longer upload my music to SoundCloud. AI training is a showstopper for me. Recently, I’ve been seeing 5,000+ streams per month from SoundCloud, but I don’t know how long that will last.
