Mirlo.space, A Work In Progress
I have tried to upload a new album of electronica to Mirlo, but the process to upload tracks to their server is severely complicated, slow and buggy. They have all kinds of parameters you can set at a track level, but most of them don’t work and even the process to save your work is broken, as far as I can tell. The upload process is the worst of all. Tell their server to accept a music file and either nothing happens; a dialog acts like it’s doing something, but the upload never completes, even after hours have passed. The other result is a dialog that flashes up on the screen saying that the system either couldn’t read the file or some other bizarre reason that it doesn’t even know what file it’s processing. Dunno what it says exactly because it’s not a normal dialog box with an accept button; it flashes up on the screen for about one second and disappears.
I understand that Mirlo is supposed to be beta software, but this feels more like alpha code.
I was able to, weeks back, upload a couple of tracks to Mirlo. This was a better result than I was able to get with Bandwagon.fm. Bandwagon won’t even let you select music files to upload on an iOS device. On top of that, I don’t think that Bandwagon has any way to monetize your uploads. If that’s the case, then using Bandcamp and their download codes gets your songs out there for even less return than the streaming platforms. I figure that if people want to listen to music, there should be some kind of remuneration for the artist. I mean, if you’re not paying for the music, then it’s not worth creating it in the first place.
Looks like Bandcamp is still the best alternative for indies to get non-streaming sales.
