Bandcamp Bans AI Generated Music
Miss Krystle has a video with a misleading title
https://youtu.be/JnbEYS_2BqM?si=1oyBM_gZHyMohgE8
but its a mostly good listen. I tried to see if Bandcamp was going to clarify some of the issues she brought up, but as of yet there hasn’t been anything else from BC.
Some of what Bandcamp says:
"We believe that the human connection found through music is a vital part of our society and culture, and that music is much more than a product to be consumed," wrote Bandcamp in a blog post. "Bandcamp was built to directly connect artists and their fans, and to make it easy for fans to support artists equitably so that they can keep making music."
And this
Bandcamp's guidelines for generative Al in music and audio aim to instill confidence in fans "that the music they find on Bandcamp was created by humans." Music and audio that is generated "wholly or in substantial part by Al" is not permitted on the platform.
And this
Meanwhile, any use of Al tools to impersonate other artists or styles is strictly prohibited "in accordance with our existing policies prohibiting impersonation and intellectual property infringement."
Wish I could find more, including the original blog post, but so far no luck.
